Exploding Spark Plugs

Beitrag von ms8742 »

Hello,

We are experiencing intermittent failures of our pre-chamber spark plugs (MWM CAT 1245 3315) on one of our MWM engine TCG2020 V12. The issue is has been ongoing for ~7months with about a dozen catastrophic failures (plug has exploded!!) at one site. We have swapped the ignition box (timing box) with another TCG2020 V12 unit which has not seen any faults moving across engines.

Plugs have failed/exploded both at high & low temperatures, at irregular intervals. Exploded plugs are generally between 1200 & 500 operating hours when exploding. The exploding plugs, which leaves the head stuck in the chamber, has occurred in various chambers on both sides of the engine (A & B)… however we have experienced a higher number of failures on the A side.

Has anyone else experienced these issues ? Could this be a faulty batch of plugs ?

Thanks
Mitch

Hi,

we saw the same problem here in Germany. Pur spark park plug quality. The manfacturer isn´t able to produce always with the same quality....

Please try the Beru 18.vgz1-77.

Much better quality.

G'day Mitch,

Exploding spark plugs with MWM engines are often a result of a not correct mounted spark plug. Your frequency of faulty plugs is not normal at all. The threads must be fitted with a special anti seize paste and the correct Torque (50Nm). I can send you the full mounting instruction if you send me your email address.

Please don't even think about testing Beru on these engines.

Cheers!
